Three new releases entered the competition this weekend but as mixed and negative buzz pored in, audiences once again flocked to Inception and made it the #1 movie for the third week in a row.
That doesn’t mean Inception lacked any competition though. Dinner for Schmucks narrowly beat it on Friday and a weekend take of about $24 Million for Schmucks will put it in a very close second place.
Charlie St. Cloud had a firm grasp on third place as of Friday but is front-loaded and facing stiff matinee competition from kid movies. I don’t believe it is likely to hold onto that spot.
Salt and Despicable Me had fourth and fifth place Fridays, but matinees will likely put Despicable Me in fierce competition with St. Cloud.
Cats & Dogs: the Revenge of Kitty Galore failed to provide any sort of opposition as it was sixth place on Friday. Still, 3D matinees should give C&D a massive boost by the end of the weekend.
Caption Contest: Give the photo at the top an uproarious caption and grab +30 points for your theater (that don’t count in challenges or the Summer Showdown). One caption per theater and the most likes wins. Please don’t vote until Sunday Night or Monday.
