This weekend saw the wide release of two new releases to go against Inception and the other holdovers: Salt and Ramona and Beezus. But according to the latest numbers it appears that Inception is going to, once again, be the “#1 Movie in America” with an estimated $43 million. Following Inception is Salt, a spy thriller starring Angelina Jolie, which could potentially catch up to Inception and take first place though it’s only estimated at this point for $37 million.
Next, is Despicable Me, which has shown to have an incredible hold over the past 3 weeks and is estimated to make $25 million this week. Following Despicable Me is another kid’s movie Ramona and Beezus, the other new wide release for this weekend. It is estimated to $10 million for it’s opening weekend which isn’t too bad since the movie only had a $15 million production budget. And the last of the top 5 movies for this weekend is Toy Story 3, according to the latest numbers estimated to make about $10 million this weekend, beating out last weekend’s other new opening release The Sorcerer’s Apprentice which is estimated for $9 million though they made the same $3 million on Friday this week and it could likely go either way.
Lastly, the bonus this week according to the estimated numbers would go to Twilight Saga: Eclipse with a 51% decrease.
