Whoa, who turned the lights off?

Welcome to the latest redesign of FlickPicks. Yes, we turned the lights off, and while you probably can’t decide whether you like it or not, let me help you decide: you love it.

We’ve been testing under this look for about a month now, and let’s just say after a month you’ll never want to go back to the blindingly bright old FlickPicks. It’s comforting, cool and, most importantly, geeky.

Let’s cut to the chase though on some of the major changes you need to be aware of:

1. Where did the bonus go?

The bonus is still there, the only difference is that it’s impossible to miss where to find it and you can’t wager points — in fact, you can only gain points from the bonus now (15 every time). There will be additional bonuses attached some weeks, specifically to boost yourself in the Summer Showdown that may include wagering.

2. Where did The Buzz go?

It has its own dedicated page found on the right side of the home page, or on any page in the top header.

3. Why is The Buzz different?

One of the biggest challenges with The Buzz was finding a way to get the perfect balance between forum and chat room. It’s still not quite there, but it’s much closer now.

The Buzz is still in realtime, but posts can now be tagged and categorized to allow for more meaningful discussion through the filter system. Here are the currently available tags:

- Box Office - predictions, numbers, etc.
- Reviews - reviews of films (either your own or link to others)
- My Chain - posts here will show up on your Chain’s private wall, it also pulls from your chain’s private wall
- Random - sure to be the most popular and most obvious

4. What’s up with the rankings on the homepage?

The homepage now has two sets of immediate rankings for you to view: Theaters you follow and Chains you follow. This feature, like the new Buzz, is all about helping you filter out the noise and focus on what you care about.

This will encourage you to follow the theaters and chains you care about (friends, new friends, competitors, etc.) and use the rankings page for everyone else. When you come to your home page now, you are sure to get relevant rankings and stats you care about immediately.

You can follow any theater or chain by visiting their profile and clicking “Follow” at the top.

There are likely more changes we haven’t discussed yet, but will do so in the future. If you have immediate questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
