After weeks and weeks of box office disappointments, it appears the summer drought has finally come to an end.
The Karate Kid took in a stellar $19 Million on Friday and is looking at an opening weekend in the range of $50 Million. This is big money for Sony and much more then anyone was expecting. Get ready to start seeing Jaden Smith in a lot more movies. The big question for FPers though, is if KK could be worth the three screens that very few put it on.
The A-Team had a much softer opening with $9.5 Million on Friday and about a $27 Million weekend. This is about in line with studio estimates and good overseas numbers plus strong holdovers the next few weekends could make the $100 Million budget back. Though a bit of a disappointment for Fox financially, it’s still a step up from most of this summer’s openings.
