Though everyone you know is probably going to see Iron Man 2 this weekend (if they haven’t already), the movie isn’t the massive success many were expecting.
With $52 million on Friday, its estimated take of $130 million is something studios salivate over, but not the record breaking $150+ million many were expecting. Still, it will be enough to put the film in the fourth or fifth spot for the biggest opening of all time and almost guarantee that we’ll see an Iron Man 3 after The Avengers. Even with mediocre reviews, audiences seem to be enjoying the movie and it should be looking at relatively small drops in the foreseeable future. There is no doubt that IM2 is a big box office winner, but it is not the movie that will take The Dark Knight’s throne.
