Hollywood is finally forgiving Affleck for Gigli as his new movie The Town opened to good reviews, $22 Million, and a first-place finish. Not bad for someone who destroyed the possibility of an awesome Daredevil movie.
Easy A slid into the #2 position with a decent $18 Million. Though that’s not a fantastic start (Screen Gem’s Dear John brought in a $30 opening), it should be enough to land Emma Stone some bigger and better roles she so deserves.
Devil is estimated to earn $13 Million, putting it in the not-a-disaster-but-not-very-successful-either category. An M. Night endorsement, mediocre advertising, and lack of talent all most likely held it back from big money. Whether this puts a damper on the other films in “The Night Chronicles” remains to be seen, as Universal could be satisfied with the mediocre take.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Resident Evil: Afterlife and Alpha & Omega, that kids movie about a nerdy wolf who tries to mate with the most popular and attractive wolf around (no really, watch the trailer (on second thought you probably shouldn’t)).
