2010 Summer Showdown Champ: seb.hope

Congrats to seb.hope (aka Sebastien), the winner of the first annual FlickPicks Summer Showdown (and by one point no less). We hope you all enjoyed the tournament, it gave folks like seb.hope a chance to prove their worthiness against the current all-time Top 10.

For each tournament winner, we’ll profile them so you can get to know each other a little better. So, meet seb.hope:

Where are you from?
Gloucester In the UK.

Top 5 Movies This Year: Toy Story 3, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, The Karate Kid, The killer inside me and Defendor, because Woody Harrellson = Awesome.

What first got you into film?
A few things: mainly just the pure imagination, but at first mainly Horror films such as Scream and Halloween just had such character-driven story with way more depth than the usual Horror/Slashers, that really appealed to me. Also when I came to America the first time in 2002, I saw Spiderman & Star Wars Attack of the Clones and just how big they were visually just amazed me. But I was young and had no idea how much more cinema had to offer.

Best advice for FlickPicks players?
I think taking chances is great in this game, sometimes it works out great, sometimes it sucks but it adds more excitement than just following estimates (although that’s sort of important too).

Favorite FlickPicks player?
My favourite FlickPicks player would have to be Chrestomanci, she puts so much work into our chain Illuminati Initiative every week we wouldn’t work without her.

Favorite director?
I can’t decide, I am crossed between Robert Zemeckis & Guillermo del Toro. Zemeckis has so many many films I love and frequently uses one of my favourite actors, Tom Hanks. But Del Toro has such an amazing vision mainly for Pan’s Labyrinth.

Favorite guilty pleasure flick?
My favourite guilty pleasure is probably Troll 2; it’s utterly ridiculous but my friends and I have never had such fun watching a film together.

Favorite moment in cinematic history?
There are millions rushing through my mind, but perhaps the opening scene of Halloween (1978) the first time, it’s pretty damn effective and surprising.
